WORKING WITH TODDLERS

As we all know working with toddlers can be a difficult process, photographing them is even harder, Trying to get them to stand still or to find that perfect pose before they get bored with the situation and surroundings. While it can be fun though it can be a very challenging session.

I like to capture my clients and children in all their glory, some of the best shots taken are ones that are not posed for and are very well "spare of the moment". Here i managed to capture a few of this handsome little boy Chase.

This session lasted for a good 15 minutes before he decided he would like to climb in and out of the box, i thought to my self hey its not so bad i can work with that and snapped away capturing some of the better images of the day. with a little help from mum and our puppy distracting the little guy we were able to come out with some fantastic shots

I have a great passion working with children, while its not for everybody i love it.. Their innocence and curiosity bewilders me. Patience goes along way when snapping a childs image, but make the process fun. play around with them, giggle, laugh, bribe them with sweets (if the parents agree lol) and just make it a comfortable and exciting experience for them. Never show a child you are losing patience with as this will just make the session all the more "difficult and uncomfortable".

If the child or client for that matter becomes restless or uninterested give them a break or reassure them that you are almost finished. Photography is an art that should not be rushed but under some circumstances unfortunately some sessions have to be finished sooner rather than later.
